A list of the Shops and Services available to visitors to the Hokianga
Note: At the moment the only ATMs in the Hokianga are at the Service Station at Omapere, accessible from 7 am to 7 pm when the Station is open. Also the Four Square store at Rawene.
We suggest that you bring some cash with you.
The Vehicle Ferry, Kohu Ra Tuarua’, operates a regular service across the Harbour from Rawene to The Narrows, about 3 Km from Kohukohu.
Tickets are purchased on board the Ferry. Payment may be either by cash or by using the on-board ATM machine which accepts EFTPOS cards and VISA and MASTERCARD credit cards.The machine does not dispense cash. There is currently an early ferry leaving The Narrows (Kohukohu) at 7.00am week days.

Doctors and medical services throughout the Hokianga are based at the hospital at Rawene, but there are clinics in most of the bigger settlements around the Hokianga.

The Health scheme and the Emergency Services around the Hokianga are rather special.
Chemists – Pharmacies:
In New Zealand prescription medicines are dispensed by Chemists at a Pharmacy. You will have to pay for some prescriptions. The Pharmacy also sells healthcare products, personal medical requirements and first aid supplies.
